If you are living in Salt Lake City, you may have heard or even stumbled upon a "Random Act of Art" around town that is featuring the talents of local "yarn-bombers." At Blazing Needles, we are excited to be part of this project in partnership with knitters throughout Utah and the Utah Arts Festival coming up, June 23-26.
Yarn Bombing, if you're not familiar with the term, has infiltrated cities across the country and throughout the world as it captures the imagination and creativity of knitters. Turning gray places into color or adding flare to everyday objects, yarn bombing is the best form of graffiti. Word on the street is that knitters in Texas wanted to find a creative way to use leftover yarn and started a trend that has spread worldwide (in fact, the photo of the MINI Cooper is from a Texas knitter and photo credits belong to Knittaplease in Austin -- and there a lot of great photos on that blog if you want to get the sense of Yarn Bombing done right).
Some interesting sites to explore include London's Knit the City and All City Knitty.
