Tuesdays: June 21, June 28, July 12, July 19, August 2
Who doesn't love a good mystery! If you're ready for some lacy intrigue, join us for 5 Tuesdays this summer as we work our way through 5 clues that, once completed, will solve the mystery and give you a lovely lacy accessory you can wear into the fall.
Each clue will introduce a new technique or stitch pattern and the clues will get progressively more difficult. This 5-session knitalong/class is for intermediate to experienced lace knitters. Adventurous beginners are welcome, too, but the classes will move quickly and it will be assumed that all students are confident knitting lace patterns from charts.
Materials: 2 skeins Zephyr silk/wool in the color of your choice OR 2 skeins Jade Sapphire 2-ply Silk/Cashmere in the color of your choice. (I recommend avoiding very dark colors.) US #6 (4mm) needle, circular or straight (I recommend an Addi lace circular needle with a 32" cord). If you are typically a tight knitter, please go up a needle size; if you are a loose knitter, go down a needle size.
Homework: Before the first class, please knit and block a swatch. Using the recommended needle, cast on approximately 28 stitches and knit 40-50 rows in stockinette stitch. Block the swatch as you would any lace piece and bring it to class.
Class Dates:
June 21 - Let the fun begin! The first clue will be distributed and the class will focus on learning the cast-on technique. Bring your swatch and your yarn and needles.
June 28 - The second clue will be distributed and we will review how to read charts and how to correct common lace-knitting mistakes.
July 12 - We will review any questions or problems before distributing the third clue. We will then learn how to work the unique stitch used in Clue #3.
July 19 - After answering questions about Clue #3, the next clue will be distributed. This class will focus on learning the technique used to work the lace pattern in Clue #4. Because it will take a while to complete Clue #4, there is a two week break until the next class.
August 2 - The final clue, #5, will be distributed and we will learn the technique necessary to complete this last clue. Please make every effort to complete Clue #4 before this class or you may have difficulty understanding Clue #5.
