Blazing Needles, located at 1365 South 1100 East in Salt Lake City, offers a community gathering place for knitters of all levels and styles. Since 2008 when it opened in one of Salt Lake's near Sugarhouse and 9th & 9th, it has been a regular stop for knitting groups, tourists, skiers, Sundance Film Festival goers, and many others.
As a community, we never miss an opportunity for a good party and many BBQs and even more cups of coffee (from local Caffe Ibis) and tea (from local Tea Zaanti) have been enjoyed, sitting in front of the fire in the winter or hanging out in the garden in the summer, not to mention regular Thursday Knit Nights. It also turns out that if you get enough crazy, creative knitters in one place, yarn bombing will become a regular occurrence (and oh yes, we did yarn bomb a MINI Cooper for the 2011 Utah Arts Festival and the bridge over Park City's Main Street). We're happy to host trunk shows from across the country, feature abundant samples knit by our own knitters, and enjoy the insanely creative decor of Carole Duh. Add to that our gifted teachers, and we count ourselves lucky to have learned the art of magic loop, felting, alternative cast ons, and kitchener stitch, among many other tricks.
Over the years, our Blazing Needles knitters have spearheaded many charitable campaigns, from blanket knitting for the Rape Recovery Center to collecting yarn and needles for women in Africa to knit while recovering form fistula surgeries. Countless needles and yarns have been donated to local schools and other groups, while auction baskets have been prepared for many local fundraisers. Most importantly, our Blazing Needles community has come together to support the homeless youth in our community by collecting or buying tents, sleeping bags, coats, and other vital items.
Whether you are a beginner or expert, old or young, Blazing Needles welcomes you.
